Natural Sciences Championships 2023

The Galilei team was awarded at the regional science championships

The awards ceremony for the regional phase of the 2023 Science Championships were held on Saturday 28 October 2023 at the Visitor Center of the “Valle Canal Novo di Marano” Nature Reserve.

For the TWO-YEAR category, the student Carla Angela Chichiarelli won second place regionally.

For the THREE-YEAR BIOLOGY category, the student Gabriele Tancik won the regional competition, thus gaining participation in the national phase, which was held in Assisi.

For the THREE-YEAR EARTH SCIENCES category, the student Filippo Vairo, by winning the regional phase, was able to participate in the national competition in Assisi, while Matteo Cogoi, second in the regional phase, placed in the top positions in the national competition, thus winning participation at the international competitions – IESO – which were held in Val D'Aosta.

Congratulations to Matteo Cogoi (5F) who qualified for the International phase of the Natural Sciences Championships in the three-year Earth Sciences category. The national selection took place in Assisi from 5 to 7 May 2023 where around 100 students were admitted, ranking first in the various regions.

The next phase involves training competitions where the selected students will attend a week of intensive residential preparation in view of participating in the international event.

The Natural Sciences Championships (formerly Olympics) are an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Education - General Directorate for school systems, evaluation and internationalization of the national education system and pursues the following objectives:

• provide students with an opportunity to test their inclinations and aptitudes for the study and understanding of natural phenomena and processes;
•   carry out a comparison between the scholastic realities of the different Italian regions;
• identify in practice a reference curriculum for Natural Sciences, substantially shared by the reality of Italian secondary schools;
• compare the teaching of natural sciences imparted in Italian schools with the teaching imparted in other nations, particularly European ones.

Regional Phase Natural Sciences Olympiad

                        Regional test Natural science championships

The REGIONAL TEST of the 2023 Natural Sciences Championships took place on Thursday 23 March at the Liceo Grigoletti in Pordenone.

For the Liceo Galilei the following participated, selecting themselves through the Institute test:

• for the TWO-YEAR category:   Carla Chichiarelli (1A), Giacomo Cozzolino (2A), Alessandro Marchesan and Riccardo Chironna (1L).
• for the THREE-YEAR BIOLOGY category:   Gabriele Tancik (4F), Massimiliano Nicolò Stefani (3E). Alessandro Bondaret (3D) and Benedetta Pahor (5B)
• for the THREE-YEAR EARTH SCIENCES category: Filippo Vairo (5G) and Matteo Cogoi (5F)

Gabriele Tancik and Filippo Vairo distinguished themselves by winning the regional competition in their categories and will then participate in the national competitions in Assisi.

It should be noted, however, that Carla Chichiarelli, for the two-year period, ranked second, with only one point difference from the first place!
