Research students and designers in AI and Data Analytics

On 31 May 2023, a representation of the students of the "Statistics and Artificial Intelligence with Python language" path, accompanied by teachers Coslovich and Di Casola, took part in the conference "IN CAMMINO - New methodologies and new tools for a school of the present" at the Regional Auditorium of Udine. In their speech, the students presented the activities carried out and communicated the objectives achieved.

The final meeting of the PCTO "Statistics and Artificial Intelligence with Python language" was held on 18 April at the University of Trieste. The course, developed in collaboration with the University of Trieste and with the support of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia through the FVG Digital School Regional Program 2021-2025, engaged the participants for almost three months and allowed them to learn the basics of the Python language, deepen some fundamental notions of statistics and analyze some applications of Machine Learning.

In the final meeting the students, coming from the third and fourth classes of the Liceo (sections of Liceo Scientifico and Liceo Scientifico with Applied Sciences option), presented the prototypes they created for an automatic recommendation system based on artificial intelligence. Automatic recommendation systems are those that, within entertainment platforms, suggest which films to watch or which songs to listen to.

Some professors and researchers from the degree course in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics were present to listen to the students and evaluate their work. At the end of the meeting, Prof. Peron, coordinator of the Degree Course, expressed great satisfaction for the success of the initiative and complimented the high quality of the products made by the students. The tutors and internal teachers of the course, professors Coslovich and Di Casola, expressed their gratitude to professors Cairoli and Nenzi and to doctor Pietropolli for the great effort made in the activities carried out with the students and to professors Bortolussi and Peron for having backed and supported the course.

The first part of the "Statistics and Artificial Intelligence with Python language" path took place between February and March, a PCTO activity developed in collaboration with the University of Trieste and with the support of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia through the Regional Digital School Program FVG 2021-2025.

Participants, coming from the third and fourth classes of high school (sections of scientific high school and scientific high school with applied science option), were able to learn the basics of the Python programming language, deepen some fundamental notions of statistics and analyze some applications of Machine Learning.

The path, characterized by innovative teaching methods and strongly based on laboratory activities, allowed students to deal with tools commonly used by researchers and designers for the development of systems based on machine learning. They were guided in the training and application sessions by the teachers and researchers of the Degree Course in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics of the University of Trieste, flanked and supported by the computer science teachers of the high school.

Currently, the students are collaborating, divided into groups, in the realization of the final projects focused on data processing and the application of algorithms. The works will be presented to university researchers and fellow students in a meeting that will take place on the Piazzale Europa campus in April.
