The institute is the recipient of European Structural Funds - Digital Board National Operational Programme

The European Structural and Investment Funds (ESI Funds) are the main financial instruments of the European Union 's regional policy whose purpose is to strengthen economic, social and territorial cohesion by reducing the gap between the more advanced regions and those lagging behind (Article 174 TFEU).

The ESI Funds form part of the cohesion policy , defined by the Treaty on the Union as a fundamental objective of the process of European economic integration .

Cohesion policy provides the framework needed to achieve the objectives of the Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth in the European Union by 2020.

Within the general aim of cohesion, each of the Structural Funds pursues specific missions.

The missions of the two European structural funds

  • The European Social Fund (ESF) , established in 1957 under the Treaty of Rome, invests in people, paying special attention to improving training and employment opportunities. It also aims to help disadvantaged people at risk of poverty or social exclusion. It has the task of intervening on everything that contributes to supporting employment through interventions on human capital . The ESF will focus on a few thematic objectives of cohesion policy including: investment in education, skills and lifelong learning.
  • The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) , established in 1975, aims to consolidate regional economic and social cohesion by investing in growth- enhancing sectors in order to improve competitiveness , create jobs and correct imbalances between regions. This fund concentrates investments on several key areas including: innovation and research; digital diary.

PON 2014-2020

For the 2014-2020 programming period, the MIUR will be responsible for implementing the National Operational Program (PON) “Per la Scuola. Competences and environments for learning” , which foresees interventions for the development of competences, financed by the ESF , and interventions for the improvement of environments and equipment for teaching, financed by the ERDF .
