MAD FOR SCIENCE Update 2023

GALILEI MAD FOR SCIENCE 1

The GALILEI MAD FOR SCIENCE project continues, developed this year as an extension of the educational offer for Galileo's male and female students, also in collaboration with the Liceo Carducci-Dante, whose students in three V classes were able to access our laboratories for molecular biology activities

The MAD for SCIENCE Project of the Galilei High School supports and implements laboratory activities in innovative spaces and with cutting-edge equipment purchased with the prize of the Mad For Science2021 competition. Project planning for this 2022-23 school year has:

  1. networking between schools between the skills of expert teachers and the instruments of a scientific teaching laboratory;
  2. offered to groups of interested students of the three-year period of the participating schools two new laboratory activities (1. Physical chemistry: Construction of Graetzel cells; 2. Molecular biology: PCR and electrophoretic run)

MAD FOR SCIENCE COMPETITION 2021

The Galileo Galilei Scientific High School of Trieste is among the 8 finalist institutes that will compete on 7 October to win the fifth edition, the third at national level, of the Mad for Science Competition, promoted by the DiaSorin Foundation. The challenge will see the eight finalists confront each other on the theme "Regenerating the future", with the elaboration of 5 experimental experiences linked to the sustainable development objectives of the UN 2030 Agenda identified as the leitmotif of this year's edition.

The Galilei Scientific High School of Trieste has developed the "Clean energy from viticulture waste" project, a 5-year journey to discover viticulture, to encourage knowledge in the environmental and energy fields and build new plants for the production of electricity powered by production waste (lees), thanks to the collaboration with the Department of Life Sciences of the University of Trieste (contact person Prof. Lucia Muggia) and the Edi Kante agricultural company.

The course leads students to reflect on the innovative possibilities that could make viticulture more eco-sustainable, encourages the use of scientific research as a source of new concrete technological applications, and supports learning by discovery, through five experimental procedures developed by the students themselves.

Mad for Science is a project that rewards passion for life sciences, teamwork and talent and is recognized by the Ministry of Education as an initiative to enhance the excellence of upper secondary schools.
