COMPUTER SCIENCE AND SOCIETY

CYCLE OF SEMINARS promoted by the Galileo Dept. (Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science) and coordinated by Profs. Andrea Coslovich and Eolo Di Casola, as part of the projects for the expansion of the training offer, as a reflection on the short and long-term social consequences of the availability of machines for the automatic processing of information to better understand and govern the digital revolution in all sectors, from economics to public administration, from geopolitics to education.

January 16, 2024 in the Aula Magna of the high school, the first of the seminars on Computer Science and Society, Alan Turing: the scientist and man in the history and society of his time , edited by Prof Guarnieri, holder of the Chair of History of Technology at the University of Padua.
Abstract:
the seminar presented to the students the exceptional story of the famous English scientist, underlining his ability to contribute to countless sectors of mathematical and computer sciences with ideas that were always innovative and had enormous impact. The seminar then concluded with a brief moment of reflection, moderated by Professor Di Casola, on the relationship between science and power.

On behalf of the entire school community, we sincerely thank Professor Guarnieri for his authoritative and enlightening contribution.

The second seminar on "Informatics and Society" took place on Thursday 21 March 2024 at 2.30 pm in the multifunctional teaching space of the high school: The contribution of information technology in the management of complex problems: big data, artificial intelligence, large-scale models, expert systems , edited of Dr. Cristiano De Nobili , PhD, Lead AI Scientist and Machine Learning Lecturer.

Abstract: the seminar involved students in an analysis of the state of the art of the intersections between computer science and fundamental sciences, also attempting to outline the most probable evolutions for the current scenario. During the meeting ample space was left for the children's questions and interventions.

On behalf of the entire school community, we sincerely thank Dr. De Nobili for his infinite availability and for the important messages communicated to the children, also and above all in an orientation way.

Thursday 11 April 2024 at 2.30 pm - the third seminar on "Informatics and Society" took place in the multifunctional teaching space of the high school: The applications of computer networks for the progress of contemporary sciences and technologies , organized by Eng. Graziano Scalamera , by Elettra Sincrotrone.

Abstract: by outlining the enormously complex scenarios deriving from the carrying out of experiments that push the frontiers of contemporary science, the seminar clarified how the pervasive use of information systems is now strictly necessary to govern this complexity. During the meeting ample space was left for the children's questions.

On behalf of the entire school community, we sincerely thank Eng. Scalamera for his availability and for the very high technical depth of his contribution .
